Bangalore is one of the more manageable Indian metro cities for solo women. Indiranagar and Koramangala are consistently rated the safest areas — well-lit, cosmopolitan, strong café and restaurant culture. The main risk is late-night transport: Ola and Rapido are safe and widely available; avoid negotiating with auto-drivers at night. Nightlife areas (Church Street, Indiranagar 100 Feet Road) are active until late and generally safe, but book your ride home before you go out.
The main reported incidents in Bangalore: (1) Auto-driver refusing meter — always use Ola Auto or Rapido Bike for a tracked, app-priced ride; never negotiate a rate without the meter. (2) UPI QR code fraud — scammers place fake QR stickers over legitimate merchant codes; verify the recipient name on your UPI app before confirming any payment. (3) Duplicate SIM card fraud — someone impersonates you to get a replacement SIM and then accesses your linked bank accounts. Use Aadhaar-linked SIM and enable SIM change alerts with your bank.
Best areas for solo women in Bangalore: Indiranagar (safest nightlife, well-lit, Ola/Rapido easy to get all hours), Koramangala (tech hub, restaurant dense, safe late), HSR Layout (residential, calmer, good cafés), Jayanagar (south Bangalore, quiet, local feel). Areas to be aware at night: Majestic/KSR Railway station area (crowded and chaotic), Shivajinagar market streets after 9pm. Brigade Road is safe for shopping until 10pm; after midnight, use the app to get home rather than walking to the main road to flag a ride.
The Kempegowda International Airport is 40km from the city. Safest options: (1) KIAS Vayu Vajra BMTC bus — ₹310–370, multiple routes to different parts of the city, runs until midnight. (2) Pre-paid taxi at the airport (KSTDC counter) — ₹1,000–1,400 depending on destination, fixed fare. (3) Ola/Uber — book from the designated app-taxi zone outside arrivals, not from touts inside. The Metro Phase 2 will eventually connect the airport but is not yet operational. Do not accept rides from men approaching you in arrivals.
