Safety verdict
Paris, France is generally manageable for solo women travelers who plan ahead. The most commonly reported issue is "Friendship bracelet / rose scam" : Hands in pockets in tourist areas. Walk past, don't make eye contact. If tied: take it off, drop it, walk away.. Verified by Ananya Iyer, a named contributor on Nomira. Last verified 2026-04-28.
Pickpocketing is the real risk in Paris — it is extremely common around the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, and the Louvre. Wear a cross-body bag in front and keep your phone in a pocket, not your hand.
The most pickpocket-prone metro lines are 1 and 13, and the RER B to the airport — stay aware at Gare du Nord, Châtelet, and République stations.
Parts of the 18th arrondissement (around Barbès-Rochechouart) can involve persistent street harassment — keep walking, no eye contact, no engagement, and move on.
The metro closes around 1am on weekdays (later on weekends); plan your last journey before it shuts or use Noctilien night buses — the route map is in every station.
Citymapper is more reliable than Google Maps for Paris public transport real-time departures — download it with offline data before your trip.

I quit advertising in 2019 and have spent the last six years living out of two backpacks across India. Spiti is my one true love — three winters there now, two on a Royal Enfield I do not recommend renting. I write because the intel that kept me safe was buried in old TripAdvisor threads and women-only Facebook groups, and that is not a good system.
