Safety verdict
Delhi, India is generally manageable for solo women travelers who plan ahead. The most commonly reported issue is "Hotel switch from IGI airport" : Driver claims hotel closed/full, takes you to commission hotel paying him 30–50%.. Verified by Leila Khan, a named contributor on Nomira. Last verified 2026-04-10.
Delhi Metro is your best friend — safe, AC, women-only coaches on every train.
Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk) is overwhelming and scam-dense; go with a plan and leave by 6pm.
Prepaid taxi booth inside IGI Airport arrivals is the only safe airport exit — ignore everyone else.
Connaught Place touts will claim the tourist office is closed/moved; it is not — walk in yourself.
South Delhi (Hauz Khas, Saket, Lodi Colony) is a different city — modern, safe, great food.
